TIPS FOR TRYOUTS
Tryouts are a stressful time for everyone.  There are a few things parents and players can do to not only make the process easier to navigate, but to help a player to separate themselves from others.  Click on Read More for our Tryout Tips.

With the 2024-25 Rep Tryouts fast approaching, we’d like to share a few pointers for players and parents to help them get the most out of their tryout experience.

1.    Don’t Be Late.  Tryout time is hectic for everyone and having players check in prior to each skate takes time.  Plan to arrive at the rink 30-45 minutes prior to your scheduled tryout and be ready to go once the Zamboni doors are shut.

2.    Parents – Let Your Player Do The Check-In.  It is a great way for the player to connect with the coach and for the coach to begin putting faces to names.

3.     Complete Your Drill.  When doing a drill, skate hard right through to the end.  Coaches notice when players let-up for the last 20 feet of a drill.

4.     Listen To Instruction.  Be attentive when a coach is explaining a drill as some of the drills may be new to players.

5.    Keep Doing The Drill Regardless.  When doing a drill, if you fall or lose the puck, don’t give up.  Get up quickly or retrieve the puck and continue with the drill.  If you give up on a drill, you may be telling the coach that you will give up during the game.

6.    Be Ready For Your Turn.  While waiting for your turn to do the drill, be attentive and ready.  Watch what other players are doing so you fully understand how the drill works and, once it is your turn, be ready to go – it sends a positive message to the coach.

7.    Don’t Play Around In Line.  While waiting your turn, don’t shoot pucks off the boards or play around with the player next to you.

8.    Parents – Read Our Tryout Info Notice.  On the first night of each level’s respective tryout, we will be handing out an information/FAQ sheet that will likely answer 90% of your questions.  Please read this thoroughly to understand the process and for information on the Jr. Raiders.

9.    Bring Your Water.  Players are reminded to bring their water bottles with them, already filled.  The Wave does not currently have a water filling station so please ensure that your bottle is full and in your bag, and that you bring it on the ice with you.

10.Double & Triple Check Your Bag.  Make sure that you have ALL your equipment packed in your bag, including your neck guard, jersey (please bring one light, one dark), etc., and that your skates are sharpened.
