Jr. Cougars 2008 Tier 1 Blue - Historical Tournament Win in Brantford
The Atom Tier 1 Blue received a late Christmas present this week winning the Wayne Gretzky International Tournament in record breaking fashion.

In the finals the Cougars faced a resilient Brantford 99ers team. In the previous three matches this season the 99ers came out on top in very close battles. The tournament final was no different. In a back and forth game, the teams found themselves in a 2-2 tie and heading into an extra period. Overtime in the championship game was sudden death 3 vs 3. With both teams and spectators on the edge of their seats no one was prepared for what was coming up.

Both teams battled hard. Goalies made save after miraculous save. No team was willing to give an inch. As the game continued on and on, the cheering grew with each great play. Soon the crowd at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Center began to grow as well. With hearts racing each play had everyone ready to explode in celebration. Finally after an entertaining 23 minutes Jonny Brooks was the scoring hero hammering home a power play goal for the Jr. Cougars.

The Championship game between the Jr. Cougars and the 99ers marked the longest game in the 49 year tournament history. Considering Wayne Gretzky has so many records it is nice to know the Atom Tier 1 Blue Jr. Cougars have a record at his tournament.
