The Jr. Cougars brought home the championship at the appropriately named Bradford Blue and “Gold” Classic this weekend. When all was said and done our boys went undefeated in 6 games, scoring 20 goals and only allowing 7 goals against.
For those in attendance, they witnessed our Jr. Cougars claw their way through the round robin with 3 wins and 1 tie. However, the team saved its best hockey for the playoff round with two convincing wins. In the finals against the Sarnia Sting, the Jr. Cougars exploded out of the gates with 4 goals by the mid-point of the first period. Sarnia had no answers until the last seconds of the third but it was far too late as the trophy had already been engraved for the Jr. Cougars.
The weekend was not only successful on the ice but off the ice as well. Players and families were treated to fantastic fall weather for hikes, walks, and runs (even one parent squeezed in a round of golf). The team also enjoyed all the amazing facilities at the Nottawasaga Inn.
Some weekend highlights included:
· Team mini putt and outdoor nature trail walk
· Team bonding in the Party Room over delicious dinners arranged by our amazing team manager, Angie Konidis
· Vinny De Simone receiving player of the tournament for his timely goals and contagious effort
· Lukas Vapsva scoring his first goal (a beauty) of the season in the championship game
· Zunti and Hepburn goalie tandem making superb save after save
· Players getting a bit too familiar with the penalty box!
The coaching staff are proud of the effort put forth by the players thus far. The Jr. Cougars look to carry and build on this success in the regular season and in the next tournament, the Guelph Powerplay November 22-24.
